Playa del Carmen Beaches

Playa del Carmen beaches have white sand and turquoise waters. The main Playa del Carmen gay beach is about 40 minutes walking north from Coco Beach, between Pure Mareazul Riviera Maya Hotel and the gay friendly Paradisus La Perla Hotel. There you may see some nudists, but again be aware that the police and local culture frown on nudity. Xangrila, Coco beach and Mamitas beaches are the best places to meet gay people. From Coco beach going south you will find many beach clubs offering entertainment, restaurants with beach chairs and umbrellas.
There are nudists resorts, but remember all beaches in Mexico are considered public property.
Since the local culture is more conservative than Europe when it comes to nude or topless sun bathing, be aware of the area you are in.
Each area of the Rivera is different. It is mostly Europeans and South Americans with a different attitude about nudity than Americans and Mexicans. Some topless and guys in thongs can be seen all along the beaches, but again those are not Mexicans.
There are several adult only clothing optional resorts from Cancun to Tulum.

Riviera Maya Beaches
Playa del Carmen beaches and Tulum beaches (2nd and 3rd place ranking on the Best Mexican Beaches) have lots of white sand. Riviera Maya’s coast from Cancun to north of Tulum is somewhat protected by barrier reefs. There are some bays in between the points of the jagged coast which are great places for kayaking & snorkeling. More terrific beaches are Maroma Beach north of Playa del Carmen and Akumal south of Tulum.
One of the best Playa del Carmen Beaches for its location, water and sand quality is Mamitas Beach. You can rent umbrellas and beach chairs from the few beach clubs or hotels. Mamitas beach club is great and has a very nice restaurant. As Playa grows, so does this section of beach with more bars, restaurants, hotels and shops coming along. Just a few blocks away from the famous 5th Avenue and the heart of the town is a place where you will find a variety of water sports, dive shops, bars, and very attractive young people. Even though is not a gay beach, you will find plenty of gay people around.
From this point on tends to be the place for dive shops and boats because of the natural reef’s protection. It is also a good area to snorkel. Further north there is much less development and the beaches are primarily deserted, but safe to go to on your own. About 40 minutes walk north from Coco Beach you will find the Playa del Carmen gay beach, a section predominantly gay with some nudity.
On the southern side of Playa del Carmen is a gated community. It is a very up-scale, private security controlled area of lush all-inclusive resorts, some shops, golf course, many private condos and homes. It is a totally planned development that has everything to offer, including an aviary and some Mayan ruins. Some of the beaches here are private to hotels and as you head further south the beaches are more deserted.
Well known for the silk beaches, with wide areas of white powdery sand beaches! The Tulum ruins are the big attraction, are close to the end of the paved coastal road and alongside the beach. There are some rental beach bungalows here for tanning and walking. The Gay Resort Adonis Tulum Riviera Maya has its own beach offering a clothing optional area located on the oceanfront “Caleta” (the property’s man made beach).
